This Regional Rail Museum in Chennai was inaugurated in 2002 to showcase the rich 150-year heritage of Indian Railways. It was created as part of a nationwide initiative to preserve the railways’ historical legacy for future generations. And it stands as the second rail museum (following Delhi’s National Rail Museum) established by Indian Railways.

5. Dining at Chennai Express restaurant – The Chennai Express restaurant is housed inside an air-conditioned Linke-Hoffman Busch train coach. Its interior is designed to resemble that of the luxury trains, such as the Maharajas' Express and the Deccan Odyssey. The menu offers Chinese, continental, North Indian, and South Indian cuisine. The area leading to the restaurant is also railway-themed, resembling a train platform.

Regional Rail Museum in Chennai is accessible throughout the day, from 10 AM to 5 PM. Except for Mondays and national holidays, the museum premises and its toy train rides are open to visitors year-round.
