History of Lighthouse, Chennai
Dating its history back to 1976, the Chennai Lighthouse replaced the old lighthouse in the city that was situated in the northern direction of Marina Beach. It took almost a year to complete its construction and finally, in January 1977, the Lighthouse was made accessible to the public.
However, due to some reasons, the entrance of the visitors was restricted from 1991 until 2013 when it was again opened for locals and tourists on November 14, 2013. Since then, lots of people flock to this iconic spot to enjoy a fun-filled day out with their loved ones.
Entry Fee and Timings of Lighthouse, Chennai
To visit the Lighthouse in Chennai, you need to pay INR 10 per person for adults and INR 5 per person for children below 12 years. For foreigners, there is an entry charge of INR 25 per head. It welcomes its tourists from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on all days of the week except Monday.
